Bruce Turner is Director Central Portfolio Management (CPM) at Fonterra, the New Zealand milk processing co-operative. Fonterra is the world’s largest exporter of dairy commodities.
The CPM team centrally manage Fonterra’s physical and financial portfolios to ensure Fonterra optimises its portfolios across markets and channels and manages market price exposures with a focus on using exchange traded and OTC derivative contracts. The core of the team’s activity is actively managing the sale of more than 2.8 million tonnes of dairy ingredients through the various sales channels The team also has a focus on growing a risk management and trading business inside CPM through trading on exchanges, helping accelerate the development of dairy market liquidity and by providing structured risk management solutions to Fonterra’s customers and farmers in order to help them manage the impact of volatile dairy commodity prices on their businesses.
Before joining NZMP and switching to the dairy industry Bruce spent 32 years in the energy sector working in Oceania, Asia, Europe & North America, primarily in electricity and gas with a focus on energy trading and portfolio management. Most recently he was Senior Vice President at Suez Energy International where he was actively involved in the centralised management of the company’s global energy market exposures with the objective of creating value from the opportunities available through liquid derivative markets.
