Course Overview

The focus on carbon emissions is quickly becoming a necessary focus for governments and businesses alike. Both public and private business practices and consumer behaviors will drive how the economies will decarbonize and the extent of future impacts. Carbon markets are rapidly evolving to address the climate crisis, and consumers, investors and governments will increasingly look towards markets for innovation and create a low-carbon economy. This course will introduce carbon markets, in all its forms and elaborate on policies, trade and reporting and tracking. This course will demonstrate the value of carbon management to the bottom-line allowing participants to practically apply learnings to new and developing business strategies.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the basis for global carbon emissions and be able to explain how emissions reductions and carbon markets work together in order for companies to achieve net zero pledges
  • Understand the definition, function and purpose of carbon markets, both in current and future states, and be able to explain how they work and the different types of carbon pricing regulatory frameworks that exist
  • Be able to analyze and evaluate real-world examples of carbon markets and be able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches, including difference between compliance and voluntary carbon markets
  • Understand the business risks and future liability of corporate emissions and the role that emissions reporting and carbon markets play in reducing business emissions liability
