Environmental Sustainability Certificate
This certificate is designed to introduce students to the various environmental challenges (e.g., water and natural resources, climate change, environmental waste, and pollution) that companies face. Courses in this certificate will teach students how to manage and report on a company’s environmental performance and how to develop sustainable and regenerative business practices to protect, restore, and improve our natural environments and resources. This is a hybrid program, with courses on-campus and online. However, it can be completed 100% online.
Curriculum
To earn the Certificate, you must complete three graduate courses of three credit hours each for a total of 9 credit hours. In addition to the course options below, you may finish the Certificate by completing a significant environmental sustainability internship (e.g., implementing, monitoring, or reporting on environmental sustainability initiatives at a business), independent study (e.g., implementing, monitoring, or reporting on environmental sustainability initiatives at your place of work), or study abroad program.
Take the required SUSB 6826 Environmental Sustainability and Stewardship course, and then choose two additional environmental sustainability-related courses. Past course topics include:

- Water quality and resources
- Climate change: causes, impacts, and solutions
- Environmental risk assessment
- Carbon markets
- ESG trends in energy and commodities
- Sustainability in resources management
- Global enterprise sustainability and resilience
- Environmental justice
- Environmental planning and management
- Environmental politics and policy
- Environmental life cycle assessment
- Science, policy, and the environment
Flexibility to apply to a future MS degree. The Environmental Sustainability Certificate can be stacked or combined with the Foundations of Sustainable Business Certificate and one additional Certificate from the list below to earn the Master of Science in Sustainable Business if you choose to later apply to the entire MS program.
