This certificate provides students with the opportunity to sharpen hard business skills in the areas of accounting and financial management. Coursework and assignments are focused 100% on the energy industry providing students with immediate applicability to current job responsibilities.

The Global Energy Management (GEM) program offers professionals the opportunity to earn graduate-level credits and gain highly sought after energy industry insight through our certificate options. Our certificates bundle three GEM degree courses together to provide students with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge, skills, and abilities in energy-focused business disciplines.

These certificates are excellent options for individuals who:

  •   May not be ready to commit to a full-time degree program
  •   Already hold an advanced degree
  •   Are seeking in-depth continuing education credits for their professional discipline

Classes start every January, April, July, and October. All GEM courses are offered in a convenient hybrid online format for working professionals.

Curriculum

You will need to complete three of the following four courses.

  •   Global Energy Economics
  •   Energy Accounting in the Global Markets
  •   Introduction to Financial Management in the Global Energy Market
  •   Advanced Financial Management in the Energy Industry

Upon completing this certificate, you will be able to:

  • Understand and apply principles of effective corporate governance to create desired financial results
  • Accurately read basic financial statements and correctly identify information necessary for business decision-making
  • Explain and apply concepts of opportunity cost, risk and time value of money
  • Identify financial performance metrics specific to his/her role and area of business responsibility
  • Appraise risk and explain relationships between various financial measures (revenues, costs, capital expenditure) and profitability and keep the bottom line in mind when making decisions

How to Apply

Admission to our Global Energy Management certificate is open to working professionals with an undergraduate degree. Candidates must have graduated with a current cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher. Application materials include an online application, application fee, official transcripts, resume, and statement of purpose. The statement should include why you want to pursue a Global Energy Management certificate and how it will aid in your professional development and career goals.
