Managing for Sustainability Certificate

This certificate is designed to train students to launch and lead strategic initiatives in their enterprises that improve social and environmental outcomes and build sustainable enterprises that thrive in any business environment. Offered online only.

Curriculum

To earn the Certificate, you will need to complete three graduate courses of three credit hours each for a total of 9 credit hours. In addition to the course options below, you may finish the Certificate by completing a significant managing for sustainability-related internship (e.g., designing or leading a sustainability initiative at a business), independent study (e.g., designing or leading a sustainability initiative at your place of work), or study abroad program.

Choose three management and leadership courses. Past course topics include:

  • Leadership in new ventures
  • Project development, management, and leadership in renewable energy
  • Leading organizational change
  • Strategic management
  • Visionary leadership
  • Leadership and decision-making in the global energy environment
  • Business ethics and corporate social responsibility
  • Managing for social equity
  • Transformative leadership for sustainability

Flexibility to apply to a future MS degree. The Managing for Sustainability Certificate can be stacked or combined with the Foundations of Sustainable Business Certificate and one additional Certificate from the list below to earn the Master of Science in Sustainable Business if you choose to later apply to the entire MS program.
