This certificate is designed to build students’ abilities to design and launch successful businesses responsive and sensitive to social needs, equity and justice, and human well-being. This is a hybrid program, with courses on-campus and online. However, it can be completed 100% online.
Curriculum
To earn the Certificate, you will need to complete three graduate courses of three credit hours each for a total of 9 credit hours. In addition to the course options below, you may finish the Certificate by completing a significant social enterprise-related internship (e.g., implementing a social sustainability project at a business), independent study (e.g., implementing a social sustainability project at your place of work), or study abroad program.
Take the required SUSB 6300 Social Enterprise course and choose two additional social enterprise-related courses. Past course topics include:
- Mission-driven and social entrepreneurship
- Marketing challenges at the global frontier
- Civil society and non-governmental organizations
- Managing for social equity
- Public-private partnerships
- Environmental justice
- Community development
Flexibility to apply to a future MS degree. The Social Enterprise Certificate can be stacked or combined with the Foundations of Sustainable Business Certificate and one additional Certificate from the list below to earn the Master of Science in Sustainable Business if you choose to later apply to the entire MS program.
