Move to 8-week courses

When reviewing the Fall 2024 course schedule during the registration process, you may have noticed a transition in our course offerings from 16-week courses to 8-week courses, which divides the 16-week fall and spring semesters in to two, 8-week sessions. This transition is anticipated to be completed by Fall 2025 for most of our graduate business programs. Some of our graduate business programs have already completed this transition since the Business School began offering courses in 8-week sessions in Fall 2020. Other programs may continue to offer some 16-week courses after Fall 2025 due to curricular needs.

The Business School is transitioning to primarily offering courses in 8-week sessions since our enrollment in these courses continues to climb, which mirrors the national trend of the popularity of 8-week courses. Students indicate their preference for this course length as it allows them to focus on one course at a time and provides flexibility in managing personal/professional commitments that may occur during the time period of an 8-week session.

Courses will be continue to be offered in an online and/or hybrid format. The online format allows students to participate asynchronously with no set meeting day or time. The hybrid format offers students a blend of in-person and online learning. The in-person experience, for most hybrid courses, will usually be once a week, typically Monday through Thursday, in the evening. There will be at least six in-person class meetings during the 8-week session for the hybrid format.

Your best resource to stay abreast of the course offerings in your program is to review the course schedule that is typically available in the portal about two weeks prior to the start of registration, which begins in early April for fall, early November for spring and early March for summer. Watch for emails from your graduate advising team, sent to your CU Denver email, as well.
