Hengqi Tian, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems at the CU Denver Business School. She earned her Management Science and Engineering doctorate from China University of Geosciences Wuhan. As part of her doctoral studies, Dr. Tian spent nearly three years in the Ph.D. program at the Center for Digital Innovation, Georgia State University. Before joining the University of Colorado Denver in Fall 2023, Dr. Tian served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Swedish Center for Digital Innovation, Umeå University, where she worked for two years.
Dr. Tian’s current research focuses on innovation and competition within digital platforms and human-AI collaboration in ground truth data labeling for AI development. She uses quantitative and qualitative research methods, including machine learning, econometrics, experiments, and qualitative comparative analysis (QCA). She has published her work in journals such as Information and Management and Internet Research. Additionally, she has presented at several prestigious conferences, such as the Academy of Management (AOM) Annual Meeting, the Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems (PACIS), the Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS), and the INFORMS Annual Meeting.
Dr. Tian’s academic contributions have been recognized with several awards, including the Best Student Paper award at the AOM’s Organizational Communication and Information Systems (OCIS) Division in 2021. She has also received the Outstanding Contribution in Reviewing from the European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS) in 2023 and 2024.
